SLAM with Ricoh Theta using OpenVSLAM

I don’t have OpenVSLAM running at a reasonable speed in real-time and thus cannot speak from actual experience. I suspect that the processing power will be a problem and that the system will be too slow. You may need to run the analysis against video files.

You may be able to rent a Z1 to test. For example, the site below offers the Z1 for $30 for a weekend.

You could also try and buy the Z1 and return it after a quick test.

I suspect it will be too slow for real-time OpenVSLAM with a larger map. However, I have not tested it. I can’t even run it at a reasonable speed on my old system.

Thanks!! I bought it to test, will update the post with the results.

That would be a big help as I never took the initiative to test OpenVSLAM fully. I feel that there is a lot of interest in OpenVSLAM from researchers. It would be great if you could share your findings.

Hey Albert

Super interested in what you are doing

Do you think OpenVSLAM would work with an equirectangular 360 still?

Video is not important to me.

I want to take 360 still images and generate dimensions

Thanks

Drew

The PDF of the paper below may be of interest to you.

I did some basic tests with 360 images.

I don’t think you should use meshroom as I did not get satisfactory results. It may be possible, but difficult.

It is likely better with the trial version of Pix4Dmapper and see if it meets your needs.
