Auto-align shifts in equirectangular images

Just a shout out that I put out a blog post on how to align two images in time series (should the camera have moved). This might be particular to my virtualforest.io application but could be of use for others.

Software will follow.

Koen,

Thanks for this blog post. It’s a very clear explanation that helped me understand the issues around auto-aligning. Really cool to hear using the stems of the trees as sort of a consistent barcode between images to get the orientation of the camera. Pretty slick.

It probably isn’t a common issue (few people take images for such prolonged periods) but there is a way to tackle it relatively easy.

I also noted that you said if there are human structures (buildings) in the time lapse, that those would help orientation. That sounds like that would be easier if you had the option.
