To connect the camera and mobile app, I needed to stop the mobile app and restart it while the camera was still connected with Wi-Fi. The mobile data on my Android phone is off.

At this point,

  • connect mobile phone to my Wi-Fi router for Internet access.

Upgraded my THETA Z1 firmware using the Windows 10 RICOH THETA desktop app. Upgraded from 1.20.1 to 1.50.1 smoothly. Total time was about 5 minutes.

When you start the firmware process, it shows Current Version and Newest Version:

Download and installed over my home network took about 3 minutes:

Camera shows a blinking “Firmware Update” on the OLED and reboots when finished.

Quick check of current version:

@jcasman, when you upgraded with the desktop software, did you notice any message about turning off the camera manually? Someone was asking about that. I wonder if they misunderstood that the camera is supposed to reboot automatically?

I did not see any message about turning off the camera manually. The OLED shows the Firmware Update message blinking for maybe 1 minute and then it reboots without any action on my part. This is the same sequence as when I’ve upgraded firmware in the past.
