Theta Z1 - Shooting Modes - adding/changing features in firmware

Hi there!
I became the owner of Theta Z1, I want to say that the camera is amazing!

I would like to introduce suggestions to the community to improve the management of shooting modes. Perhaps in the future, developers will be able to trace useful functions for firmware in this.

How the current control of camera shooting modes looks in my opinion (firmware 1.11.1)

Auto Mode
What I can adjust:

  • EV (from -2 to +2)
  • ISO Upeer Limit (200 – 6400)
  • WB
    in Auto mode:
  • Aperture range (2.1; 3.5; 5.6)
  • Shutter range (1/8 – 1/25000)
  • ISO range (80 – {Upper Limit})

Aperture priority
What I can adjust:

  • EV (from -2 to +2)
  • ISO Upeer Limit (200 – 6400)
  • Aperture range (2.1; 3.5; 5.6)
  • WB
    in Auto mode:
  • Shutter range (1/8 – 1/25000)
  • ISO range (80 – {Upper Limit})

Shutter priority
What I can adjust:

  • EV (from -2 to +2)
  • ISO Upeer Limit (200 – 6400)
  • Shutter range (1/8 – 1/25000)
  • WB
    in Auto mode:
  • Aperture range (2.1; 3.5; 5.6)
  • ISO range (80 – {Upper Limit})

ISO priority
What I can adjust:

  • EV (from -2 to +2)
  • ISO range (80 – 6400)
  • WB
    in Auto mode:
  • Aperture range (2.1; 3.5; 5.6)
  • Shutter range (1/8 – 1/25000)

Manual
What I can adjust:

  • Aperture range (2.1; 3.5; 5.6)
  • Shutter range (60 – 1/25000)
  • ISO range (80 – 6400)
  • WB
    in Auto mode:
  • nothing

Shooting method:
Normal shotting – Auto, Av, Tv, ISO, M
Interval shooting – Auto, Av, Tv, ISO, M
Multi bracket shooting:

  • Aperture range (2.1; 3.5; 5.6)
  • Shutter range (60 – 1/25000)
  • ISO range (80 – 6400)
  • WB 2500K – 10000K

Add/Change features:

  1. ISO Upeer Limit (200 – 6400) >>> ISO Upeer Limit (80 – 6400)
  2. Shutter range (1/8 – 1/25000) >>> Shutter range (60 – 1/25000) for Aperture priority [Av]
  3. Shooting method: Multi bracket shooting
It would be easy way to get nice pano if I can control EV in this shotting method. So add Auto, Av, Tv, ISO instead Manual mode only.

I like the shooting mode Av with 5.6 to reduce chromatic aberration, but ISO 200 (upper limit) - some nois appear, and shutter speed 1/8 - is not enough.

I like ISO mode with ISO 80, but Aperture 2.1 somtimes give some aberration, shutter speed 1/8 - is not enough.

I would like to use β€œMulti bracket shooting” for HDR post processing, but manual mode not very convenient for quick setup. So I need EV bracketing in Auto, Av or Tv mode.

Best regards

@aizava,

Thanks very much for your post and all the specs of your new THETA Z1. Looks like you’re spending some time really trying it out. That’s great.

What are you using your Z1 for? Are you a photographer?

You mention being interested in Multi Bracket Shooting for HDR but don’t like the setup time. Have you looked into using the Authydra plug-in? It automatically sets the settings based on a first baseline image.

Welcome, hope to see more of your experiences and opinions here again soon!
